Doing a runner

This weekend we attended a wonderful church celebration. More than a thousand gathered to walk the streets of the city.

The sound from the front only occasionally reached us. One older lady took the initiative and lead us in prayer, her voice’s strength lent support as we hundreds followed her cue. Our daughter slept in her pushchair as we moved through the crowd, then work to observe peacefully.

Later, the little one travelled back and forth across the lawn, ceremony abandoned to the joy of her legs moving again. She ran down a paved border that turned into a ledge, steps to the side leading to a ten foot drop.

I ran to her, shouting and leaving a sandal behind. A kind stranger positioned himself at the bottom of the fall but was not needed.
